USMMA GALLERY

   This small space contains items related to the history of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Not to be missed are the “Surrender Sword,” a Japanese admiral’s personal sword surrendered to General Douglas MacArthur at the end of World War II and given by him to the Academy. 

Also of note is a 1943 letter signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt that declares “The Academy serves the Merchant Marine as West Point serves the Army and Annapolis serves the Navy.”
